What To Expect

Chiropractic care involves various forms of treatment depending on your particular health care needs. On your first visit, you will have a chance to sit with me to discuss your health concern. A detailed health history and focused physical examination will be performed to understand your complaint and identify the causes of your complaint. Together, we will develop a unique treatment plan designed to help you.

Chiropractic care can help you, whether you are injured and need immediate care, or you are looking for a natural approach to health care.

Most insurance plans will cover the cost of your chiropractic visits. Please contact your insurance company to find out how to submit claims and receive reimbursement for your chiropractic care.

Adjustments and Manipulations

Chiropractors are specifically trained to use their hands, small instruments, and specialized tables to help alleviate stiffness, restore range of motion and improve function.  This is done by applying controlled, safe and low force thrusts to the joints of the spine and other areas in the body.  This form of treatment is referred to as a "Chiropractic Adjustment" or "Chiropractic Manipulation".

When this technique is applied to the spine, it is referred to as a "Spinal Adjustment", and when applied to the other joints of the body such as the knee, elbow, wrist, and jaw, it is known as an "Extremity Adjustment".

Regular adjustments help to maintain mobility and promote proper function of the joints in your body and support optimal health.

Graston Technique® Soft Tissue Therapy

Graston Technique® Soft-Tissue Therapy is a deep tissue, myofascial technique used to treat scars, adhesions, and many kinds of musculoskeletal injuries such as muscle knots, tears, sprain, fascial tension, and tendinopathies.

This technique uses specially designed stainless-steel instruments that glide along an injured muscle, ligament, fascia, or tendon. This gentle glide is repeated over tight areas and muscles knots until it effectively breaks down adhesions, promotes blood flow which lead to tissue healing. This technique is performed for up to 5 minutes and once tissue is released, range of motion is restored and pain diminishes.

MedX Phototherapy (Laser Therapy)

MedX® Phototherapy (light therapy) is a proven and highly effective treatment used to increases local microcirculation at the site of an injury. This form of treatment will stimulate your body's natural healing response at the cellular level.

When the laser is applied over an injury, tissue repair is accelerated, pain is reduced, inflammation and swelling are decreased, and immune response is enhanced.

Laser therapy can safely be used over the spine and the back of the neck. Research shows sports injuries heal almost 50% faster when treated with laser therapy.

Manual Flexion-Distraction Technique for Disc Injury

Manual Flexion-Distraction Technique is used to provide pain relief when suffering with a lumbar disc hernia, disc bulge, and sciatica symptoms.

A special manual flexion chiropractic table allows the spine to be gently stretched and massaged at the same time to help the disc fall back into place and reduce leg pain and numbness known as Sciatica.

In some cases, flexion-distraction is an alternative to surgery and can effectively remove the stress on the compressed or herniated disc.

This technique is also used as a preventative measure to keep the spine moving and to prevent disc problems in patients who are predisposed to such conditions.

Kinesio Taping

Kinesio Taping® Method is a rehabilitative taping technique that is specially designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion. This tape can be applied to the body after chiropractic care to prolong the benefits of manual therapy.

Latex-free and wearable for days at a time, Kinesio® Tex Tape is safe for all asges. Paediatric to geriatric will benefit. This technique successfully treats a variety of orthopaedic, neuromuscular, neurological and other medical conditions.

Dr. Melanie Stewart is certified in The Kinesio® Taping Method and has been offering patients the support they are looking for, while also rehabilitating the affected condition.
